The proposed convention will also include representations from our faculty members, activists, young professionals and scholars so as to act as a platform where our students have the opportunity to interact with them on different issues directly.
The detailed information of the proposed national convention will be displayed shortly on this portal.
All the Dalit and Adivasi students, young professionals, academicians and activists, those who are interested to participate in our convention, are requested to write to us.
First National Dalit Students Convention (2005)
To commemorate one year of publishing of our magazine and its reaching to more than 50 universities across the country and abroad, our group organised the First
National Convention of Dalit students on 20-22nd October 2005 at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.
The three day convention, first of its kind in the country, was organised solely by raising financial and human resources from within the community and succeeded in networking students from across the country for the first time.
The participants included 75 students from 15 universities and professional colleges and discussed on various issues including the need of a national platform for our students.
The main objectives of such platform as laid down in the first convention were to build a national network of Dalit and Adivasi students from higher education as a non-political platform, to enhance interaction between our students across the country through organising meetings and conventions on regular basis, to provide a common platform for activists, intellectuals engaged with the issues of caste to dialogue with the students directly, to provide a space for students to raise their voices against caste discrimination prevalent in educational campuses and to provide the much needed space for creating an environment where Dalit and Adivasi students can showcase their talent through various means like writing, organizing events.
